These Bowls are made with RingMaster and ShopSmith. The effect can be very impressive. Requires some practice and a lot of sanding. Finishing with paste wax is best altho the grain is much better with the tung oil finish. They are not without some suprises especially when you encounter a bad glue joint and the bowl flies into pieces scattered all over the workshop area. The one with the hole I glued back together after picking up pieces for about a week.
This type of bowl is made from segments of wood, glued into rings then stack glued. Following these steps it is placed on the lathe and turned to final shape, sanded and finish applied. The results are very interesting and allow the use of a great many types of patterns and colors.
This bowl was created from Sasafras, Walnut, Oak, Poplar and Maple.
